Recent email question to us about pet food
"I am looking for some pet products for my puppy. Could you recommend
the best organic pet food for him (3mth old Staffy)?...
Thanks alot for your help!!"
Our answer
We stock a brand called Vet's All Natural and they make a mix for Puppies (0-2years old). It's a fantastic complete meal for pets - like a savoury cereal. All you have to do is soak the recommended amount (details at the back of the pack) overnight and mix with some raw meat at dinner time. It's good for their digestive systems, and really popular amongst our customers. 1kg is $11.75, and if your dog weighs about 5kg you only need 60gm for a meal. We're based in the centre of
Hobart so getting the products to you if you're unable to come in wouldn't be a problem.
Let me know if you need more details. We have some good products for our
loved ones (those on two and four legs)!
Kind regards,
City Organics

Fair Trade
Fair trade chocolate is chocolate with a conscience, meaning we can enjoy the luxury of chocolate whilst making a difference to the life of third-world producers at the same time. By buying fair trade, we are guaranteeing a fair price for the cocoa and sugar farmers in developing countries, ensuring they have a stable economic future.

Organic Times uses only 100% certified organic chocolate that is grown and purchased through the “Hand-in-Hand” programme, named so, as it is only by working hand-in-hand with these co-operative farmers that we can help improve the quality of life in their communities. “Hand-in-Hand” gives back to the farmers that practice sustainable farming through education, health and environmental programmes and ensures farmers are paid based on a fair pricing structure that is independent from the fluctuating world market.
We have Organic Times Easter Eggs and Bunnies available for Easter prices reduced On Special Now!
We also have cooking chocolate available.

Taste the difference with delicious organic foods; the result of traditional know-how, and cultivation by small farmers dedicated to safeguarding their cultural heritage and preserving their environment – something that Fair Trade helps them to do. Ethical Certified Organic quality Handmade Olive Oil Soaps & Shampoo
The soap and solid shampoo are genuinely handmade in small batches from majority guaranteed BFA-certified Williamsdale Organic Olive Oil [BFA 10179A] with best edible castor and coconut oils, soya vitamin E and guaranteed 100% pure essential oils. The generous amount of organic vegetable glycerine formed in the cold-process is fully-retained.

Organic Olive Soap and Shampoo is majority certified organic olive oil - not just a splash of allegedly-organic oil in a palm/coconut base. It does not contain rain forest and orangutan-destroying palm oils, animal by-products, resin fillers, detergents, artificial colours and scents, preservatives, dairy products or any chemical additives whatsoever.
Recent question to Julian our organic oil soap-maker> thought you would be the best person to ask re the common addition of
> lye to soap - sodium hydroxide?? Someone told me today that it is not
> possible to make a soap without it. so I thought I would check in with
> an expert. What is it, what is it used for and do you use it in your
> soaps? Are the ingredients you list all of the ingredients in your soap?
Jules' answer:-
The use of lye - commonly known as sodium hydroxide is always used by soap makers unless they use potassium hydroxide which makes liquid soap. The other lye is sodium laurel sulphate which sulphates the environment and is not so good.
But here's the thing - there is absolutely no lye in the finished soap in a good product like mine. The sodium combines with stearates in the oils to form sodium stearate -soap -and the glycerine is the by-product. In most commercially-made soaps and most so-called 'handmade' soaps they use very poor quality oils to maximise profits and there is usually free lye which is casutic and alkaline in the soap.
The test for free lye is to taste it - your tongue should not tingle as it won't with mine which is neutral with actually 5% free oils in the product as well. All of the ingredients are thus listed on the label - BFA-olive and best edible castor and coconut and the glycerine - there is no resultant lye -the minimal little bit I use has all been transformed to soap and glycerine - I don't have to use much as the oils are so rich and pure - not 5th grade dripping like most which has been steamed, boiled, stripped of glycerine to make ammunition, resin-filled [the nasty bit at the end which won't dissolve] then injection moulded and baked.
Common soap is just the
scum left after extracting the glycerine for ammo and cosmetics and is sold at virtually cost-price. The cold-process is a gentle loving careful hand stir at extremely low temperature then the soap cooks itself as the reaction takes place...
Write again if you have any more questions..
Best Wishes, Jules.
