Green & Black
Green and Black started back in 1991 when Craig Sams, founder of Whole Earth - the pioneering organic food company - was sent a sample of dark 70% chocolate made from organic cocoa beans. His wife, environment columnist for The Times and confirmed chocoholic, Josephine Fairley, found the half eaten bar on Craig's desk and sampled some for herself. The intense flavour was unique and unlike anything she had tasted before. Jo was convinced other chocolate lovers would appreciate it in the same way she had and they set about making the world's first organic chocolate. The final product was a high-quality, bittersweet dark chocolate bar, packed with 70% cocoa solids - enough to make chocolate fans sit up and take notice..
As the brand began to gain a loyal following, Maya Gold was added to the range in 1994 - the product of a holiday Jo & Craig made to where they discovered cocoa farmers were being penalised, as some larger confectionery companies tried to drive cocoa prices down. They agreed to pay the farmers a fair price for their crops and created the flavour of Maya Gold to capture the taste of the rainforests where the cocoa is grown. This way of doing business didn't seem different to them - it was what came naturally but it susbequently earned them the UK's first Fairtrade mark.
Bonvita
Bonvita Rice Milk Chocolate products are made exclusively from ingredients originating from controlled organic farming. Bonvita does not use food additives such as aromas, colours, flavours or preservatives. Consequently Bonvita can justifiably refer to its products as being of the very highest quality.
A replacement for milk chocolate!
There is now a tasty chocolate replacement for anyone who cannot or does not want to eat milk chocolate due to lactose intolerance or a vegan lifestyle. For this chocolate, which must be called "couverture" according
to Dutch law, we use rice milk instead of cow's milk.
The result is a tablet with a taste that is impossible to distinguish from that of real chocolate.
Plamil
Plamil has been making their own chocolate for decades. Their expertise is in making quality non-dairy chocolates ensures each bar is sumptuous tasting with a superfine texture that just melts in the mouth.
Their alternative to milk chocolate has all the special qualities of our chocolates, plus even more soy to make this bar ideal for all those who like the taste of dairy milk chocolate without the dairy milk.
The no added sugar bars use the sweetness in Xylitol, which is made from birch trees. Xylitol is known to have benefits in oral health and therefore ideal for those that do not want sugar replaced by chemical alternatives. With 60% cocoa these bars have a really good chocolate taste. The hemp in the Shelled Hemp variety is rich in protein and a source of essential fatty acids omega 3, 6 and 9.
