Chai in a Teapot (GF)
GF=gluten free DF= dairy free EF= egg free
"Our Family Recipe"
Ingredients
- Formosan loose tea (this tea won’t go astringent and bitter when left steeping even for longer periods of time, and can be left all morning and still taste good). Unfortunately not available organically.
- Cinnamon sticks: ground coarsely with cardamom in a coffee grinder or equivalent
- Cardamom pods
- ¼ to ½ inch of Fresh Ginger root
- Sweetener to taste (we use honey or natural sugar-free stevia)
- Milk of your choice
Method
- Boil your Kettle of water
- Heat your teapot with hot water then empty
- Add to teapot:
- (for a 4 cup pot) 3 heaped teaspoons of Formosan Tea (you need to use quite a bit of Formosan Tea for a richly flavoured cup)
- ¼ teaspoon of coarsely ground Cinnamon sticks and Cardamom pods
- fresh ginger root (grated with a porcelain ginger grater is the most effective but any fine grater will do)
- Add boiled water and wrap up your teapot to keep your tea cosy
- Leave for at least 5min then strain into cup and add sweetener and milk to suit your taste.
